さて、今週日曜日の上映イベント
＠新宿御苑インフォメーションセンターも近づいて来たので、
今日は、上映作品のひとつの紹介を。
昨年の「EARTH VISION 第13回地球環境映像祭」で、
アース・ビジョン大賞を受賞した作品です。
●サイレント・ストーム●
オーストラリアで行われた、イギリスの核実験。
その影響を明るみに出そうとある科学者が立ち上がった。

○監督のメッセージ○
「サイレントストーム」のテーマは２つのオーストラリアです。
1つは1950年代の楽観的な白人のオーストラリア。
羊による富を得、ベビーブームを経験し、
学校では毎日全ての生徒に無料で牛乳が配られていました。
もう1つはより悲観的で、冷戦の中で共産主義の侵略を恐れて、
自国の土地でのイギリスの核実験を受け入れたオーストラリアです。
「サイレントストーム」は、牛乳の放射能汚染と、
政治的に動機づけられた研究のために
死体から骨を持ち去るという事態を引き起こした、
この異なる２つの世界の衝突を映し出しています。
この劇的で、しかしあまり知られていない物語は
最近公にされた資料と、核実験の最中に極秘の動物実験を行った科学者からの
私的な手紙をもとに制作されています。
彼の発見は今でも鋭い警告を発しています
どれだけ限定されたものであれ核戦争による
放射性物質の降下がおきれば、
それは人類にとって地球規模の問題となるでしょう。
Director’s Message
“Silent Storm” is a film about two Australias. The first is the optimistic white picket-fence Australia of the 1950s – when the nation rode to prosperity on the sheepユs back, experienced a baby boom and every school child was ensured a free bottle of milk daily. The other Australia is far more pessimistic – embroiled in the Cold War, fearing a Communist invasion and hosting British atomic weapons tests in its backyard. ” Silent Storm” is about how these two disparate worlds collided – resulting in nuclear contamination of the milk supply and the theft of bones from dead bodies for a politically, motivated scientific study. This dramatic, yet largely unknown, story is based on recently declassified documents and private letters from a scientist who carried out Top Secret animal experiments during the tests. His findings remain a stark reminder that fallout from a nuclear war, no matter how limited, will become a global problem for humanity.
