第14回アース・ビジョン大賞「レインボー」のアブドゥッサラーム・シャハダ監督から、日本の上映会に向けてのメッセージをいただきましたので、ご紹介いたします。

私の作品をご覧いただく方々に
私たちは、パレスチナ人として、自らの歴史が世代を超えて繰り返されてきたのを見てきました。私たちは、自らのアイデンティティを考えるとき、もはや占領に束縛されていることと切り離すことができません。国家としての地位と自由の実現に向けた不断の苦闘によってもたらされた、被害者の自己イメージと切り離すこともできません。私たちは、現実のなかでも、映画のなかでも、エンドレスで再生されるフィルムのなかに生きています。私たちは、破壊された家、戦車、F16戦闘機、薬莢、ロケット弾といった同じ舞台装置を使い続けています。主役と敵役とを区別することもできないまま、被害者の立場を強いられているのです。
「レインボー」は、私が2004年に制作した映画ですが、これと同じ物語を反復しています。私たちは今2009年に生きています。私は、皆さんがこの映画を、またリハーサルを何度も繰り返すように見なければならないことを残念に思います。しかも今回は、より進歩した兵器によって、わが民衆とわが街を実験台にしながら繰り返されているのです。この困難なときにあって、私は皆さんに映画を託します。そのメッセージを理解するために、見ていただきたいのです。

THE MESSAGE TO AUDIENCE
As Palestinians, we see our history repeated generation and after generation. We are no longer able to distinguish an identity separate from one tied to the occupation and an image of ourselves as victims brought about by the constant struggle for justifying our right to statehood and freedom. We are living in a film loop in reality and in cinema. We maintain the same set designs of upheaval homes, tanks, F16s, bullet shells and rockets. We are forced into victim hood, unable to distinguish between protagonist and antagonist.
Rainbow, a film I produced in 2004, reiterates this same narrative. We are now in 2009. I am sorry to force you to watch this film with its repeated rehearsal once again but now with more developed weapons that are being experimented with on my people and my city. In this difficult time, I leave you with a film that must be watched in order to understand its massage.
