Suspended Coffeeに感動して、実際に日本で活動を始めた小さな温かいカフェが、夕張市にあります。ルーチェ・ソラーレといいます。オーナーの笹谷達朗さんに、お話を伺いました。
笹谷さんは、貧困者のためにコーヒー代金を誰かが前払いしておくという習慣は、まだまだ日本では根付くのが難しいと考え、できることから始めようという気持で、「支える珈琲」「支えるピザ」「支えるおにぎり」などを始められました。
受取る人は貧困者でなくとも大丈夫です。心や体が疲れていて人の暖かさに触れたいお客様が、１杯の支えるコーヒーを受け取り、そしてまた次の人のために、前払いをしていらっしゃることもあるのだとか。
イタリアのように、貧困者のために１杯のコーヒーを、という行動を日本に根付かせるには時間がかかるかもしれませんが、ルーチェ・ソラーレさんのような地道な活動を続けていくことで、ただシンプルに「見知らぬ誰かにコーヒーをご馳走する」という行動が気軽にできるようになったら、なんと温かい社会になっていくことでしょうか。

Suspended Coffee Starts in Japan! ~At a Café in Yubari, Hokkaido~
A small coffee shop in Yubari, Hokkaido, moved by the story of suspended coffee, has instituted the action. The name of the café is Luce Solare. We talked with the owner Tatsurou Sasaya.
Mr. Sasaya, realizing the difficulty of establishing the custom of paying it forward for the needy in Japan, has started off by offering “support coffee,” “support pizza” and “support onigiri (rice balls)” and the recipients don’t have to be merely those in need. Customers feeling tired either physically or mentally can get a free cup of coffee that has been paid for by someone in advance.
It may take a while before the traditional “suspended coffee” movement takes off in Japan where a coffee is bought for someone in need such as a homeless person, as in Italy, but if more places start simple actions like Luce Solare, we can create a warmer society where we help those we have never met.
